去年雨季赤柱大樹倒塌, 不幸壓死一路過的港大女生, 事件引起各界的討論,樹木保育這課題才真正得到政府的關注, 成立專責小組跟進香港的樹木安全, 可惜本港於這方面的專才跟知識嚴重不足, 現實所見的是當事者為怕問責, 時也不分就裡, 草率了結了本來可以康復的樹木, 揮劍斬樹祗需一夕時間, 樹木培育卻是十數載的事, 相差的豈祗是紙上光景?
港大植根百年,校園內上數十載的大樹比比皆時,前人種樹後人乘涼, 這道理風子深刻體會,隨手便可例證! 牌坊入口的白蘭花樹,每至初春花期,盛放的白蘭花香隨著微風輕送,偶然的一陣雨粉,便教一地花碎,適時正好是大考季節,莘莘學子日與夜地辛勤,那清香的白蘭花香正好提神!現每聞及白蘭花香,總教我想起那段好時光。
近日,港大中山階一棵逾40歲嘅石栗, 其腳部受真菌入侵嚴重腐爛，經過多月治療都無功而還，前天也要忍痛揮劍斬樹。位於中山階的石栗有成4、5層樓高，面正圖書館前位置, 乃學子們喜愛聚集談天的地方, 也是校內外午時論壇的熱門地點, 當年John Nash教授於此的一夕話, 便吸引了無數擁戴者, 由中山階至開心公園一段, 路也擠的水洩不通。石栗樹春夏秋冬各具風光, 於中山廣場默默見證歷史,陪同學子走過無數求學歲月。
聽說校方會在石栗附近種植一棵節果決明,此樹有粉紅色花, 據聞可生長至15米高樹冠15米闊, 花期盛開時好似一把大的太陽傘,乃亞洲最靚的樹種, 由樹苗開始種起，那又是多少年的光景?
