Intensive Course

Ruth posted a topic of 21 hours intensive course in her degree recently and commented it as the difference between a college and a shop in terms of knowledge acquiring. Yup, I do agree with her here and somehow that’s the usual arrangement of part-time degree or professional course in academic/non-academic institutes.

Under norm practice a course in university would last around 12 weeks. It offers students plenty of time to digest knowledge acquired as well other courses concurrently taken, and still have sometimes for their extracurricular activities. For undergraduate study such setting is appropriate and understanding as life in university should have a good balance. However, for those part-time/short terms/postgraduates studying they are more likely with a job attached and the real concern no longer is just a problem of knowledge acquired but more on issue of time and effectiveness. To majority time is an alternative cost even they may do nothing at home and it’s impossible for them to devote full in studying. That’s why the intensive training program introduces in the market. Two to four consecutive days (9-5) training is quite common and ends both instructor and attendants exhausted.

Here we try to assume people are mature, conscious what they are pursuing and have ability of self studying after class attended. But what it turns out here the assumption is somehow invalid, particularly so to some who even fail to meet the prerequisite of the class and tends to get lost while the class. They are stressed no just lagging behind the schedule but also the basic knowledge equipped before the new knowledge loading. No wonder students are worrying the passing grade while the first class starts. It’s understanding.

But a point here please be nice to your lecturer/instructor particularly so to those well in preparation. Hold positive attitude to ask question rather to interrogate their knowledge, that’s the quickest way you can learn more from him/her. Just believe that those have burnt their mid-night oil and work hard would reward in someway! Add oil, friends!

我時常都很羡慕日校的學生,可惜當年因為經濟的問題,要出外工作了。不過晚間課程自有晚間課程的樂趣,也能遇到好老師。

DinDin, I am better as I finished my study full time, it's still acceptable even harsh it is. What I learnt is "Work Hard, Play Hard"!

SWJ,不要羡慕,學海無涯,彼岸風景也是一樣,而晚間課程所須的更多了份堅持和恆心,你要加油呀 :)
